image Throughout the history of the custom electronics market, there's been a handful of brands that have supported the channel's growth.

One of those companies is Runco, and recently, the luxury manufacturer of projection and flat-panel video displays introduced two new projectors: the Signature Cinema SC-50d and SC-60d.

Runco has engineered the projectors to reproduce bright, rich pictures through its use of dual UHP lamps and three-chip Texas Instruments' (TI) DLP 1080 chipsets. In addition, the company also includes its external DHD video processor and CineWide with AutoScope technologies for noise-free, aspect-ratio correct image reproduction.

The Ore.-based manufacturer also says the projectors are 3D ready to support both passive and active 3D technologies, and through the use of Runco's Smart Lens system and ISF calibration provisions, installers can calibrate the projectors with preset lens and iris memory for use with masking screens.

image In today's economy products from companies like Elite Screens can prove to be valuable to installers trying to meet the value demands of discerning consumers.

The company's new Raptor Modular product is the latest version Raptor series screen and it provides CE Pros with a retractable screen product that can be removed from its furniture housing and placed in spaces to completely conceal its existence when it's not in use.

Elite says the product uses its CineWhite Tension material to ensure it remains flat and when this technology is combined with its 1.1 gain and black backing, the screen can be implemented in a variety of room environments without suffering from image quality issues.

In addition, the company says the self-standing projection screen is also available with its non-tensioned, Maxwhite 1.1 gain material, and the line is offered in a choice of three sizes in a 1.78:1 (16:9) ratio: 78 inches, 84 inches and 92 inches.

image Most video enthusiasts prefer the flexibility and visceral impact of a two-piece projection system and now as the market trends into 3D content projection solutions are also emerging.

One existing product that's ready to handle the technology demands of 3D content is Vutec's Silverstar screen. Using a silver-based material and several optical layers, the high-gain 6.0 screen can help projectors produce the brightness and grayscale necessary to reproduce 3D content without losing contrast.

image In preparation for the upcoming InfoComm show in Las Vegas in a couple of weeks, Ind.-based Draper, Inc. announced two new projection screen products for commercial applications.

Highlighting the two new product announcements is the Low Gain Cineflex product, which the company says provides users with a wider viewing angle, while retaining high contrast levels.

The .8-gain screen is designed to minimize hot spotting, which allows it to be used for applications such as short-throw setups in church audio/video systems.

image Coming off the success of its well received Dream E projector, the French-based high-performance video manufacturer Dream Vision has just announced that it is expanding its line of LCoS-based projectors through the introduction of its new Starlight Series.

The Starlight Series is available in two versions: the Starlight1 and Starlight2, and they both incorporate 1920x1080 LCoS chipsets, HDMI inputs, Crystal Motion processing, HQV video processing and 2.35:1 CinemaScope processing.

The major differences between the two products lies in the rated contrast ratio ratings---32,000:1 for the Starlight1 versus the 50,000:1 for the Starlight2---and the additional custom installation provisions, which are incorporated into the Starlight2. Highlighting some of these features are an additional mode setting for dedicated theater environments, and calibration menus that include access to the unit's color management system (CMS).

Dream Vision is distributed in the U.S. by Audio Plus Services, and in addition to the choice of performance levels, Dream Vision also offers the Starlight Series in a choice finishes to enable the projectors to complement a variety of home decor styles.

Earlier this year the Colo.-based company introduced its new FVX200 Lens System, which it designed as a cost effective solution for systems that employ mid-market projectors.

Engineered for projectors that cost less than $10, 000, the FVX200 can be used with popular projectors like JVC's line of LCoS-based units, and the lens works with 3D and 1080p content.

image Projection systems are becoming increasingly popular among consumers that want big screens and the ability to migrate into future technology trends.

Screen Innovations' (SI) new Performance Motorized III projection screen product is a retractable screen solution that installers can use to satisfy their clients' aesthetic and big-screen wow factor aspirations.

The screen features Somfy motors that quietly engage the screen's up and down movements, and within those movements, installers or consumers can utilize SI's Easy Set option, which is a memory setting that allows for specific user adjustments.

Other options offered include the choice of 1.78 (16:9) or 1.33 (4:3) aspect ratios, 12-volt triggers, IR control, 24 inches of extra black drop and a choice of screen sizes that depending on the aspect ratio that range from 77 inches to 120 inches.

image In the audiophile community the San Francisco-based distributor Sumiko has earned a following among dealers and enthusiasts that appreciate its line of products, which include Sonus faber and Vienna Acoustics.

The company is building a similar following in the video category with its Wolf cinema brand and products like its new DCL-200FD LED projector.

The single-chip DLP-based LED light engine unit offers a 1920x1080 resolution, the company's VariScope FX 2.35:1 anamorphic lens option, a brightness rating as high as 750 ANSI Lumens, compliance with the Rec.709 color specification and a full on/off contrast ratio of 100,000:1.

Wolf also includes six HDMI inputs, RS-232 control capabilities, a USB service port, a 12-volt trigger and selection of analog and PC inputs.

image Adding to its line of THX-certified products, Ore.-based Runco has announced that several of its latest generation products have achieved THX certification.

Among the products from the company that are THX certified are the company's new LED-based Q-750i and Q-750d projectors.

In order to meet the testing standards established by THX, the Q-750i and Q-750d had to pass THX image quality tests in several categories, including luminance, contrast, color gamut, gamma, picture uniformity, image solution, as well as video processing functions like de-interlacing, video conversion and noise reduction.

image For years Calif.-based Elite Screens has made a name for itself with installers and end users that seek value-minded projection solutions.

In addition to its home theater products, the company also makes other screen products for applications such as business and education, and its new Tripod Pro is an update on the company's portable Tripod unit.

The new 1.1-gain white screen features a 1:1 aspect ratio, a black-tube casing to protect the screen from the rigors of portable use and a velveteen coating that is said to minimize light glare. Elite also offers the screen, which weighs no more than 35 pounds in a choice of diagonal screen sizes that ranges from 85 inches to 119 inches.

image Cineversum has introduced its Blackwing Two and Blackwing Three projectors.

The products, designed to complement the company's original Blackwing One, offer RS-232 serial ports, a choice of analog and HDMI 1.3 digital inputs, resolutions of 1920 x 1080, anamorphic lens kits, ceiling mounting hardware and other accessories.

Highlighting the performance of the LCoS-based projectors is a contrast ratio of 32,000:1 for the Blackwing Two and a contrast ratio of 50,000:1 for the Blackwing Three.

Cineversum is imported into the U.S. by the St. John Group.

image According to Screen Excellence, its unity gain Enlightor 1 has the lowest insertion loss of any acoustically transparent screen on the market. The screen can be ordered in fixed frame and motorized versions, as well as a choice of aspect ratios.
