image With the news that Blu-ray players will soon do away with analog component outputs, CE Pros are going to have to deal with the problems of the HDMI format whether they like it or not.

Sencore's new MP500 HDMI Tester has been updated with new features to enable electronics professionals to troubleshoot systems that incorporate HDMI cabling connections.

Highlighting the tester's list of features are a cable test function, which uses pseudo-random noise to test HDMI distribution paths for bit errors to determine whether a problem is caused by the source, cable, display or repeater, and an expansion of the tester's pattern generator to accommodate multichannel HDMI audio systems. This option provides the patterns required for room acoustic measurement and analysis, including pink noise, impulse, polarity and sine waves.

image Engineered for the growing commercial A/V market, which includes schools, universities, hospitals and boardrooms, Atlona's new 100-foot Plenum Male/Male HDMI cable is UL-Listed and designed to reside within a wall or ceiling.

The cable employs 24AWG copper connectors and a triple-shielding construction to protect the signals it carries from EMI and RF interference noise.

Atlona also builds a signal booster into the cable to eliminate any potential signal loss and to enable it to support resolutions up to 1920 x 1080, as well as the Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio high-resolution audio formats.

image The Anthem BLX 200 Blu-ray Disc Player is engineered to complement the company's Anthem Statement-based home theater system. It plays DVDs and CDs, and supports 1920 x 1080p screen resolutions via HDMI v1.3.

Additionally, the player incorporates Deep Color and x.v Color video standards. Anthem trims the component out with a brushed aluminum faceplate and Anthem-blue lights to match its standard industrial design.

The BLX 200 also features:
  • 1GB of built-in memory
  • Ethernet port
  • Additional 2GB USB Flash Drive for access to Web-based content available through BD-Live (Profile 2.0) functionality
  • Compatible with Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD
  • 1080p upscaling through HDMI
  • 12-bit video pipeline
Installers can set up the player to output 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p. It can be configured to output DVD at its native 480i resolution to bypass the BLX 200's internal de-interlacing to allow a connected Anthem and Anthem Statement A/V pre/pro to handle the video processing duties.

On its back panel, the BLX includes connections for Ethernet, as well as component and composite video outputs, plus digital optical and coaxial audio outputs and 7.1 PCM audio output via HDMI.

MSRP is $799.

image Installers who are running HDMI as part of a complex A/V installation should look at Aurora's ASP-88 HDMI Matrix Switcher to route HD audio and video signals to multiple zones. The switcher can be used to address multiroom A/V installs in the home and commercial digital signage installations. The 1U high unit has eight HDMI inputs, is HDMI 1.3C compliant and offers IR, USB and RS-232 control options.
