This 10,000-square-foot home has 11 flat-panel TVs, 54 speakers, more than 20 zones of audio and a dozen video zones, an Elan g! system to control everything … and four racks displayed in a beautiful custom cabinet as almost a shrine to the high-tech prowess. They’re sitting pretty on the wall of a well-done media room that features a 106-inch motorized drop-down screen. “Originally we were going to have standalone racks in the utility room, but the homeowner invested a lot of money and wanted to see the gear,” says…

Middle Atlantic, Extron Initiate Half-Rack Standard
Jason Knott | 02/03 10:59 AM,
3 Comments
Just like when ordering ribs at your local BBQ joint, integrators won't have to order a full rack when a half rack will do for their A/V installations. Middle Atlantic Products, in conjunction with Extron Electronics, is initiating and supporting the establishment of a new standard for half-width http://www.cepro.com/topic/tag/equipment_racks for A/V integration. Working in cooperation with the Electronic Components Industry Association (ECIA), Extron and Middle Atlantic are seeking to establish and maintain a specific ECIA standard for what has typically been offered as a custom rack offering until now. To…

True custom installers pride themselves on building clean equipment racks with tidy wiring. The quality of wiring not only says a lot about the installer, but it makes a big difference with system performance. In the 5th annual “Show Us Your Racks” contest, sponsored by Middle Atlantic Products, we asked our readers to send in their innovative A/V racks that have a unique backstory or overcame an installation obstacle. From integrating racks into tight spaces to designing and building systems on a budget, our CE Pro readers continue to create…

Can You Stack Cooling Fans in a Rack?
Frank Federman | 12/02 08:31 AM,
0 Comments
Can an installer stack fans in a rack? The quick answer is “yes.” One reason to stack fans is to minimize the number of holes we have to make in a cabinet. If an installation involves an enclosure with highly restricted air flow, fans should operate in series (half used for intake, half for exhaust) rather than in parallel (all exhaust or all intake). A basic rule about air flow: Case 1: When air flow is unrestricted, fans in parallel (side by side, both in exhaust or intake mode) will…

Palatial Home Theater Runs on 5 Racks
Steven Castle | 11/04 07:25 AM,

Tom Redhead and Sean Sullivan, formerly of the electronics design and installation firm AVI Design by Audio Warehouse in Saskatchewan, Canada, and now operators of their own CE firm, SuRe InnoVations in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, certainly had their hands full - of cabling, components, you name it - with this palatial space. The home theater and lobby were designed by North Miami, Fla.-based First Impressions Theme Theatres in grand fashion: an ear-splitting JBL Synthesis sound system, a jaw-dropping 155-inch Screen Innovations display fed by a Runco projector, a whole-house digital audio…

OmniMount Axis Series audio tower
Robert Archer | 10/06 07:54 AM,
Excluding the minority audio enthusiast market that doesn't mind having huge speakers and massive monoblock amplifiers sitting in the middle of their living rooms, most Americans don't want unsightly electronics to dominate the aesthetics of their living spaces. Helping homeowners to blend their electronics into their homes is the Phoenix-based company OmniMount, which has just released its Elements AT, Verona AT and Axis AT audio towers. These new products are designed to match its existing furniture product lines that house TVs and other components. The first of the three new…

Julie Jacobson | 09/22 05:55 AM,

Sometimes it’s the little things that make an A/V rack cool. Get it? Sanus introduced at CEDIA 2011 its new EcoSystem gizmos for 5- and 12-volt electronics, including the company’s own fans and low-voltage lighting. At the core of the EcoSystem line is a 1U multivolt power supply that offers low-voltage outlets and switches on the front and rear. USB ports for charging also grace both sides of the unit. Say goodbye clunky transformers. To complement the power supply, Sanus now offers a range of task lights, fans (three varieties)…

CE Pro and Middle Atlantic Products want to show off the best racks in the fourth annual Great Looking Racks contest. We want to feature the best A/V racks you've ever built in the November issue of CE Pro. But while the back of the rack always gets the most attention for great wiring, we want to see what you've done to the front. Maybe they’re tricked out. Maybe they solve unique installation challenges. Maybe they use neon lights or feature a monitor. We want to show off your work!…

Middle Atlantic BGR equipment racks
Robert Archer | 08/11 05:25 AM,
Efficiency and versatility are more than buzzwords these days for installers, they are necessary traits that must be incorporated into today's product market. The company first introduced the line at the recently completed InfoComm commercial electronics trade show and it is now shipping the products.
