Arlen Schweiger | 09/01 07:12 AM,

DirecTV was onto something with its NFL Sunday Ticket package, right? We want to be able to watch as many football games as possible come autumn weekends. Well, those weekends are almost here, and some of us can only sit back and envy others who not only can tune into several NFL games at once (or college games, though there are usually a handful of those on at the same time during Saturday afternoons and evenings), but can do so simultaneously in the same room. Over the years we’ve highlighted…

3D was the thing at Sony’s New York product showcase where it unveiled what home audio video division category manager Jon Lin calls its “3D step-up series” of TVs. Sony also showed its DA3600ES 7.1 Channel Network Multiroom A/V Receiver, which Lin says syncs extremely well with popular high-end automation systems like Control4, Crestron and AMX. The product showcase, which took place at Sony’s Madison Avenue headquarters, was the first time the general press got a look at the new SMP-100 web content aggregation device, which puts Sony in direct…

Runco Program Targets Studio Execs
Julie Jacobson | 08/25 07:03 AM,

Runco is making it easier for studio executives to enjoy private screening rooms in their own homes. The company's new Digital Cinema Concierge service helps Runco dealers provide projection systems and content servers that meet the exacting standards of the Hollywood elite. It's more challenging than it seems. Studio executives aren't your typical home theater clients. Sure, they want the finest quality audio and video possible, but they require something much more than that: the capability to play digitally distributed first-run Hollywood films, just like the real cinemas do. For…

James Pestone is a movie addict, but you won't find him upgrading to Blu-ray anytime soon. For one thing, the Star Wars sagas are not available in HD yet. And this homeowner has more than 3,300 regular ol' DVDs. Thanks to the slick retrofit handiwork of New Jersey–based Intra Home Systems, Pestone's entire collection as well as his music is stored digitally on a Kaleidescape media server that holds 24 terabytes of data. Using a Crestron touchscreen, Pestone can navigate through his collection on his 106-by-45-inch theater screen. The theater…

Inside Godfather-Themed Theater

Themed theaters are nothing new. We’ve seen our share of sci-fi homages, western themes, movie star themes and more. With the help of some local artistry and custom fabrication, this theater room gives a nod to the don. Yes, the godfather Don Corleone keeps a steady eye on the gatherings in this home theater, which was designed and installed by Michigan-based Spire Integrated Systems. Spire managed to incorporate the homeowner’s favorite film by using a local artist’s ability to digitize the image and imprint it on an acoustical panel. That’s…
